Your Guide to KLIA T1 Lounges (The Best Airside Lounges to Relax Before You Fly)

So far, we’ve shared a lot about earning miles through credit cards to redeem luxurious flights, but we haven’t really touched on lounge perks yet. A lounge visit is a big part of the travel experience — it can elevate your journey and help you save on food costs at the airport.

If you’re flying out of Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA T1), you might be wondering which lounge to visit before your flight. Whether you’re after a quick meal, a refreshing shower, or a quiet place to get some work done, KLIA T1 has something for everyone.

In this post, we’ll go through the lounges operating on the airside (after customs) at KLIA T1.

Located in the Satellite Terminal building, the Golden Lounge is the flagship lounge of Malaysia Airlines. Access is generally reserved for Business Class passengers and Enrich or oneworld elite members. However, thanks to the Ambank Enrich card — which even grants entry to basic Ambank Visa Signature cardholders — the lounge has become more accessible than ever.

The lounge itself is massive with plenty of seating areas. That said, it can still get very crowded during certain times of the day, especially in the late evening.

The food selection is great, with a range of Malaysian, Italian, and Japanese options that are switched up regularly. If you enjoy made-to-order dishes, check out the noodle station, sandwich station, and pasta station. We especially love the pasta station, which serves freshly made pasta.

Families with young children will be glad to know there’s a dedicated play area to keep the little ones entertained.

Another one of our favourites is the nap area — perfect for catching some sleep before your flight.

Private Transfer on Mercedes-Benz

Besides the usual airport shuttle, Enrich Platinum members, Business Suite and Business Class passengers, as well as new Mercedes-Benz customers flying with Malaysia Airlines – you have the option of a Private Transfer to the Satellite Terminal in an electric Mercedes-Benz. Just head over to Gate G1 at the Main Terminal, where the concierge will offer you the ride. Who could say no to that?

Pro-tip: Even if your flight departs from the less exciting KLIA main terminal (which is common for KUL-SIN flights), you can still take a spin on the private Mercedes and visit the bigger satellite Golden Lounge. Just make sure you come back to the main terminal in time for your flight.

MAS Regional Golden Lounge – Main Terminal

Located in the Main Terminal building, the Regional Golden Lounge is a scaled-down version of the MAS International Golden Lounge. It’s intended for passengers flying short-haul regional routes, such as to Singapore. Access rules are the same as those for the Satellite Lounge.

The facilities here are similar to those at the Satellite Lounge, although the food selection is more “scaled-down.” Due to its smaller size, the lounge has less of a “wow” factor, but it still offers the same essential amenities. We also find that it’s generally quieter than the Satellite Lounge most of the time.

Plaza Premium Lounge

2 UOB Private Section for UOB Cardholders.

4 Elite members and premium cabin passengers from major airlines.
5 Trip.com Free Airport VIP Lounge Pass.

🍺 Bar Area
🏦 UOB Private Section

Right after immigration and bag-only security screening at the Main Terminal, you’ll find Plaza Premium Lounge.

Entry to the Plaza Premium Lounge is relatively easy — access is provided by most local banks in Malaysia, although some banks may impose conditions such as minimum spend requirements, restrictions on bringing guests, or access limits for supplementary cardholders. For our friends from overseas, if your credit card offers lounge access, you can most likely enter this lounge for free.

The lounge itself is a pleasant place to visit. We especially enjoy dropping by during breakfast hours when we’re not expecting a wide variety of food. While there isn’t a huge selection, the food quality is decent and satisfying enough for a light meal. That said, in our experience, this lounge is almost always crowded.

There is a special section reserved for UOB cardholders. If you hold cards like the UOB Priv Miles Elite, UOB Visa Infinite, or UOB Zenith, you can access this area. Note that access is on a per cardholder basis — each card grants access for one person only. For example, if you’re traveling as a couple and you entered the Plaza Premium Lounge using a UOB card while your partner entered with a RHB card, only you would be entitled to access the UOB Private Section, which is a bit of a shame.

Plaza Premium First

How to Access 1 Selected CIMB cards.

🥗 Vegetarian Option
💆 Massage
🚌 Premium Shuttle
🔌 Charging Station

Right next to Plaza Premium Lounge is the Plaza Premium First — a smaller, more exclusive area located next to the Plaza Premium Lounge. We recommend accessing this lounge with selected CIMB cards such as the CIMB Travel World Elite, CIMB Travel World, CIMB Preferred Visa Infinite, or the easiest option, the CIMB Travel Platinum.

For our friends from Hong Kong, you can enter with cards from Futon, HSBC and BOC. However, if you are from other countries, you won’t be able to access this lounge for free using Priority Pass or DragonPass. Even some high-end American Express cards from overseas do not grant complimentary access here.

Pro tip: You can first access the Plaza Premium Lounge through other means, then pay RM95 to upgrade to Plaza Premium First.

The lounge can get crowded at times, but in our experience, you’ll still be able to enter as access remains relatively exclusive — unless you arrive when airlines like EVA Air are boarding their business class passengers.

We find the food to be pretty decent. In addition to the buffet dining options, there’s also a made-to-order food menu available.

Other Facilities – Massage and Premium Shuttle

The most lesser known feature of this lounge is the 10 mins massage which you will have to request from the front counter. We recommend booking the massage as soon as you enter the lounge.

The Premium Shuttle is also available for CIMB cardholders flying in economy who visit Plaza Premium First (PPF). We were told that PPF staff can escort you to Gate G1 upon request — just let them know at the PPF counter.
