Despite frequent devaluations, you can still unlock value from Enrich Points with the right strategy.

Overview
Enrich, the points currency of Malaysia Airlines, remains the go-to frequent flyer program for loyal MH fans and casual travelers who prefer the convenience of direct flights. However, frequent devaluations and sometimes high fuel surcharges have made it less appealing.
Despite this, Enrich can still be worthwhile — especially for those who know how to maximise its value. Beyond flight redemptions, Enrich points can also be used for hotel stays or even converted to cash.
Read on to discover the best ways to make the most of your Enrich points!
How do we earn Enrich in Malaysia?
Earning Enrich in Malaysia is straightforward since nearly every miles-earning credit card offers it as a transfer option. For the best cards to earn Enrich, check out our post on Best Miles Card in Malaysia 2025.
Alternatively, you can earn Enrich the traditional way by taking paid flights with Malaysian Airlines or with OneWorld partner airlines like Cathay Pacific. In addition to Enrich, you’ll accumulate Elite Points, which help you achieve Enrich Gold and Enrich Platinum elite statuses.
Other ways to earn Enrich include spending at merchants such as Klook, booking hotel stays, and even purchasing property.

In April 2021, Malaysia Airlines rebranded its frequent flyer currency from “Enrich Miles” to “Enrich Points” as part of an overhaul to the Enrich program. Previously, miles were earned based on the distance flown (X miles flown = X Enrich Miles), but the system shifted to a revenue-based model, where earnings are now tied to the amount of money paid for the flight. For simplicity, BolehMiles may refer to it as “Enrich”, even though we mean “Enrich Points.” |
Malaysian Airlines Flight Redemptions – The Sweet Spots
In our post on “How Much is One Enrich Worth“, we mentioned that BolehMiles target redemption value for Enrich is 4-6 cents each. In other words, a redemption will only make sense to us if it gives us at least 4 cents of value, and the best case being 6 cents. Bear in mind that value is subjective, everyone values the miles differently.
Below, we’ll explore the destinations that offer Enrich redemption values between 4 to 6 CPM.
Note: You can view the full redemption chart for Enrich here: https://bolehmiles.com/enrich-redemption-chart/
Business Class

For business class redemptions, here are 7 destinations that still offer good value with Enrich (or we like to call them the 7 Carb-Wonderlands). Below is a comparison of the redemption requirements for Enrich Saver vs. KrisFlyer Saver. Of course, it’s a trade-off between the convenience of flying direct and better product quality of Singapore Airlines.
| Destination (from KUL) | Enrich Saver |
KrisFlyer Saver |
|---|---|---|
| London | 108,000 | 103,500 |
| Melbourne | 75,000 | 68,500 |
| Tokyo (Narita) | 50,000 | 52,000 |
| Osaka | 50,000 | 52,000 |
| Shanghai | 47,500 | 43,000 |
| Beijing | 48,700 | 43,000 |
| Maldives | 16,300 | 43,000 |
Since Enrich uses a dynamic points system, you’ll only get these rates when demand is low and/or you book the flight way in advance. During peak seasons, using frequent flyer programs such as Asia Miles and Avios to redeem Malaysian Airlines flights may make more sense.

Economy Class

Economy Domestic

Economy on Malaysian Airlines is great for short domestic trips. Here are some good ones that require small amount of enrich, and possibly more than 4 CPM of value.
| From Kuala Lumpur to | Enrich Saver |
|---|---|
| Langkawi | 2300 |
| Penang | 2300 |
| Miri | 3200 |
| Sibu | 3200 |
| Kota Kinabalu | 4600 |
Economy International

For international economy flights, few destinations offer values exceeding 4 cents per mile, but here are some that do.
| From Kuala Lumpur to | Enrich Saver |
|---|---|
| Maldives | 5500 |
| Taipei | 13200 |
| Sydney | 25000 |
| London | 33000 |
Taxes, Fees and Charges (Cash Outlay)
This might be the trickiest aspect of the Enrich frequent flyer program. Sometimes, this can be a dealbreaker. When redeeming an Enrich award ticket, your points only cover the base fare, but you’ll still need to pay extra in cash for taxes, fees, and charges.
In general, Enrich redemptions come with a cash outlay that includes Fuel Surcharge (YQ), government and airport taxes. For comparison , KrisFlyer does not impose a Fuel Surcharge (YQ) on redemption bookings, making it a more appealing option. But that’s a topic for another day.
Here’s a sample breakdown of the cash outlay for a KUL-LHR redemption

One key point: The cash outlay is determined primarily by the booking date (i.e when you make the booking) — not the flight date, whether peak or off-peak. Other factors that come affects the cash outlay slightly are the cabin class and the fare class. The estimates provided below reflect the cash outlay for various destinations if we make a booking now in February 2025.
| Destination (from KUL) | Cash Outlay |
|---|---|
| International Business Saver | |
| London | RM294 |
| Melbourne | RM375 |
| Tokyo (Narita) | RM556 |
| Osaka | RM556 |
| Shanghai | RM284 |
| Beijing | RM284 |
| Maldives | RM274 |
| International Economy Saver | |
| Maldives | RM134 |
| Taipei | RM144 |
| Sydney | RM260 |
| London | RM154 |
The cash outlay here looks reasonable, with the exception of Tokyo and Osaka, which are on the higher side.
Note that cash outlay changes with time. If you had booked your flight earlier (say, in September 2024), the cash outlay might have been higher.
Before making a redemption, always factor in the cash outlay. During times when cash outlay spikes up significantly, it can significantly reduce the redemption value, bringing it well below 4CPM (which is a dealbreaker).
OneWorld and Partner Airlines Redemption
Another lesser-known feature of Enrich is its ability to redeem flights on OneWorld and partner airlines. However, you can’t do this online. You must redeem your flights by contacting the Malaysia Airlines Call Centre at 1-300-88-3000 if you’re in Malaysia or +603-7843 3000 if you’re calling from outside Malaysia, or by visiting a Malaysia Airlines ticket office at Nu Sentral.

Notice that the Enrich required is fixed, unlike the dynamic pricing applied to Malaysian Airlines flights. Additionally, return flights tend to offer better value than one-way trips, provided you can find redemption availability.
We’ll dive into this topic on another post.
Redeem Enrich for Hotel stays
Sometimes you may not have the time to travel, or you have too much excess Enrich and you just want to burn them off. Enrich Hotels can be great option if you can find redemption values between 4-6 CPM. But from our experience, the value seldom falls within this range.
But during promotions, such as the current one in Feb 2025 offering 5,000 Enrich discount, you do get values around 5CPM.

Redeem Enrich for Cash
Enrich Money is a money app that comes with a Visa card, focused on travel expenses at competitive FX rates similar to Wise and BigPay. It’s powered by Merchantrade.
Topping up with EnrichMoney with Enrich Points lets you convert them to cash at a rate of 40 Enrich Points = RM1.00. Here’s the effective conversion rate: 1 Enrich Point = 1 EnrichMoney Point = RM0.025 (2.5 CPM)
This may not be the best value, but sometimes you may have excess Enrich Points and just prefer the cashflow; burning off some carbs for money can be a good idea. To sweeten the deal, Enrich Money frequently runs promotions that give extra EnrichMoney Points, such as the current Feb 2025 offer providing an additional 28% bonus.

Combine that with the ongoing 10% Enrich transfer bonus, the effective conversion rate works out to be 3.52 cents per Enrich Point.

Conclusion
While some miles chasers avoid Enrich entirely and have switched to KrisFlyer or other frequent flyer programs, we at BolehMiles still believe in maintaining a balanced miles diet. Enrich is widely available in Malaysia and can still offer good value for certain redemptions. It’s like a comfort food you can rely on from time to time.
